If you have a bathtub or have found an antique clawfoot bathtub and the enamel is in bad shape or the tub is cracked, it can now be made to look like brand new. The process of bathtub refinishing will allow even the color the tub to be changed. The process of bathtub repair will allow for the chips and cracks to be repaired to an almost new look also.

After using the tubs for a period of fifteen to twenty years the enamel can become dull and porous making it hard to clean and even still looking like it needs cleaning after you just cleaned. Also the style several years ago was to have the colored bathtub and sinks in the bathroom. If you are thinking or removing and replacing the sinks and tubs for either reason, consider the process of bathtub refinishing. The color of the bathtubs can be changed to almost any color scheme you may need. One of the good points of the refinishing is the fact it can usually be done in one day. Also with the fact the sink and tub do not have to be removed from the bathroom. This not only will save time but a large amount of money. No need to purchase the new sink or tub, hire a plumber, carpenter or a painter just to name a few of the expanses that you would not have to now pay for.

If you have found one of the antique clawfoot bathtubs the refinishing can be done but the process is a little bit different. The outside of the tubs really are made out of cast iron. Even if the cast iron clawfoot bathtub has been abused or left outside for years, chances are it can still be saved and refinished to look better then a new tub. After years of neglect, the outside of the tub will probably need to be sandblasted. This will remove any rust, dirt, grim or whatever from the outside. This will leave it pitted so it will be filled in and sanded to a very smooth surface. Then your choice or color will be applied. The enamel on the inside of the tub will be refinished also. This can be done to either match or contrast with the outside color. So no need to worry about your colors, almost anything is possible.

Do not forget the actual claw feet. They can also be refinished to complete the fresh, new look. Even if you do not need the whole tub refinished, the process of bathtub repair can fix the chips or a crack . The amazing thing is the way the professionals can match almost any color to repair the tub in a way most people will not even be able to spot the repair.

8 tips for a Clean Bathroom Design

We believe that keeping your bathroom clean and functional will end up saving you on costs of extensive bathroom renovations that could be required if you don’t pay enough attention when required. This means you can revamp the bathroom design by only making small changes, like the addition of one or two accessories. Also, your bathroom design is improved if you keep it clean and well ventilated.

Let’s take at 8 simple tips to help you out:

1. Walls and Windows:

For the wall tiles you need to attack the grout. It is important that you inspect and repair walls and then scrub them with a brush and a solution of one gallon water with 3/4 cup of non-chlorine or hydrogen peroxide based bleach. You can clean glazed tiles with a non abrasive cream cleanser or even a tile cleanser. Make sure you wipe down the tiles properly to avoid soap build-up. Add a row of hooks to hang your towels and robes on.

2. Ceilings:

Completely wet the ceiling, and then scrub with an all purpose cleaner and a sponge or a rag. Check for mildew and wash away with a mild, non-chlorine or a hydrogen peroxide based bleach solution. This is better for the environment, also.

3. Shower & Tub:

If you have an enamel tub, then use a non-abrasive cleanser, and for acrylic or fibreglass tubs, you should be gentle; don’t use abrasives or scouring pads. Follow the instruction manual for air jets or water jet tubs. If you don’t have a niche for shampoos, then add a caddy bag that can hold the bottles and can be hung from the shower faucet. You can also add a retractable clothesline for wet clothes.

4. Shower Door/ Curtain:

Throw the curtain in for a wash and if the liner has a soap build-up, wipe it with a non-chlorine or hydrogen peroxide based bleach solution. For the door you can use a glass cleaner, or a solution of vinegar and water, which works wonders.

5. Toilets & Showerheads:

There is large build-up of lime if the water is really hard. You can occasionally use a lime-scale remover to get rid of build-ups and clogs.

6. Sinks & Countertops:

Make sure you repair leaky taps and clean the sinks regularly. Clear the countertops often as well and try to keep them clutter free and store away as many things as possible.

7. Vanity or Medicine Cabinet:

Empty this out completely and wash it thoroughly with a non-abrasive cleanser. Before putting the removed items back, go through them and get rid of the stuff you don’t need. Check expiry dates on medicines and ointments and also get rid of crumbly old eye shadows and those unnecessary toiletries. You can also get cool suitable styles of drawers for organising your items, like makeup containers.

8. Floor

Last but not least is the floor. Non-glazed tiles can withstand some good scrubbing with an abrasive cleanser. Marble requires some non-abrasive cleansers and non-acidic ones, too. Are you in need of bathroom design ideas? Though it is a room which is not used as often as other parts of the home, it should still be decorated in a manner which is conducive to a relaxed and welcoming ambiance.

There are two main factors which need to be considered immediately: the available space and the natural lighting. These will determine the rest of your design plan such as the color scheme and the type of features you can include.

If you have a very light and airy bathroom then you will have more choice when it comes to the color scheme. A smaller space which is not so well lit would look better decorated in light pastel shades to prevent a feeling of claustrophobia.

What are you going to decorate the walls with? As a bathroom is an area of high humidity, wall paper and normal home paints should be avoided to prevent molds and fungus. Instead you could opt for special water proof paint or even tile the walls. If you are going to include any tiles in the design, be it on the walls or floor, then you should choose a style which compliments the rest of your decor.

The problem with a tiled floor in the bathroom is that it is often thought of as being a cold surface, nobody like to step out of the bath onto a cold floor. The solution would be to get hold of a selection of bathroom mats or even consider using wood paneling as the flooring.

Bathtub or shower? This is a very important question. If there is space you should think about both. Usually a bathtub can easily be converted into a shower cubicle with minimal effort.

Finally there are the fixtures and fittings. It can be better to choose one bathroom collection rather than shop for individual products.

If you are settling for a subpar bathroom because you believe that redesigning yours would cost too much money, then think again! There are plenty of bathroom design ideas that are cheap and affordable, and yet still looks good! All you need to do is to be creative with some bathroom designs that have already been done, and to think of ways on how to imitate that but with a smaller budget.

First off, you just need to work with what you already have. If, for example, you have a bathroom that is pure white, then you can make use of that by contrasting it with dark or bright colors. You have no idea what a bright yellow rug and a bright pink toilet seat will do to improve the drab look of an all white bathroom.

Secondly, you can always do things yourself, or through the help of a friend. If you want your bathroom to have character, you can always add some character by painting something on the walls. If you have no artistic talents whatsoever, you can always ask a friend if they are willing to paint a mural or an image on your wall in exchange for something that you are actually good at, like maybe cooking them dinner.

As for lighting, you don’t need to hire an electrician that costs an hour just so they can attach a set for you. The best and cheapest of all bathroom design ideas is to put a few scented candles and place them in the right positions, such as on the counter tops, in the corner of your bathtub, and maybe even beside your toilet!

And last but not the least, try and scour garage sales, flea markets, and other discount places for things that you can make use of. You would be surprised at how many amazing things you would find in a flea market, so take those and add a little creativity, and you have for yourself completely unique and ingenious bathroom designs.

my experience at my neighbor’s house is that she did wood floors, dark granite, and cherry cabinetry. Beautiful, but very dark and quite formal looking. I love the casual look of the limestone looking counters,(check out Caeserstone, and it can be honed so it’s not shiny) with creamy cabinets, maybe a chocolate rub around the edges, with black appliances and maybe some stainless steel. Also check out The Barefoot Contessa on the Food Network. She’s got a great classic kitchen, bright and cheery, but with black granite and stainless stove, and refrig. Very clean. Also, Caesarstone’s website has a kitchen design spot where you can pick your cabinet color and countertops, etc. Have fun!
